Review: Delta Hotels Burnaby Conference Centre

This past weekend I decided to do a last-minute trip to Vancouver to visit my good friend and then take a road trip to Seattle to visit some other mutual friends. Of course, we also took the opportunity to open some US bank accounts 😉

For the first night in beautiful British Columbia, I had the opportunity to stay in a beautiful Grand Villa Private Suite at the Delta Hotels Burnaby Conference Centre.

Let’s take a look at my review of the Delta Hotels Burnaby Conference Centre to see if this hotel is worth staying at.

Booking

I booked a Guest Room, 1 King two weeks before arrival. I have stayed at this hotel before and the staff immediately took proactive action to acknowledge my Titanium status with Marriott. It did help that I have also gotten to know the managers.

A day before check in, I was upgraded to the impressive 1 bedroom penthouse suite.

Location

The Delta Hotels Burnaby Conference Centre is centrally and conveniently located in northwest Burnaby, at the intersection of Highway 1 and Willingdon Ave. Importantly, it’s only 4 kilometers from the Metropolis shopping center at Metrotown.

Parking

Parking is free at the Delta Hotels Burnaby Conference Centre.

Room – Grand Villa Private Suite

The Grand Villa Private Suites are located on the 21st floor, including both one and two-bedroom suites. The one bedroom suite was a total of 791 square feet, which felt very spacious.

As you enter the room you are presented with a large open lounging area, complete with sofa, round table, booth table, and television. Definitely more than capable of hosting a moderately sized group of friends.

The classy marble floors are a real highlight of this suite.

There is a kitchenette to the left of the door. Nothing crazy, just a sink and mini fridge.

The combined bedroom and bathroom were even more impressive. Walking in you are immediately presented with the main event: a massive floor-to-ceiling waterfall shower, big enough to fit at least 5 people (but why would you share anyway).

Another pleasant surprise: the marble floors leading to the shower and sink are all heated.

The toilet is located by itself in a small room to the right of the bedroom entryway. The toilet itself was a Kohler 4.8L flush. The toilet paper roll holder and garbage can placement were very good. Combined with the heated floors the overall toilet rating would be a 1.92/2.

Finally, the main event: the bedroom. A nice king size with two nightstands and a small chair. There was another television here as well.

The bed was very comfy and the city view from the bed was nice. The room had luxurious electronic drapes as well.

Restaurants

The Delta Hotels Burnaby Conference Centre has surprisingly ample choices for dining options, including the Villa Bistro, Atlas Steak + Fish, Persona (inside the casino), and Chow Lucky Noodle bar (also inside the casino).

Villa Bistro

I had the opportunity to have breakfast at Villa Bistro. Platinum and Titanium Marriott Bonvoy members get a credit of one breakfast item and beverage per person plus gratuity.

I had the Smoked Salmon avocado benedict, while my friend had the From the Griddle (waffles). Both were very good, although passing tater tots as hashbrowns didn’t sit quite right with me.

Atlas Steak + Fish

The Delta is also home to a more formal restaurant called Atlas Steak + Fish. We didn’t get a chance to eat here but it has very stellar reviews on Google and Open Table.

Chow Lucky Noodle Bar

The Chow Lucky Noodle bar is located inside the Grand Villa casino. Even if you’re not gambling, this is a very affordable option for good quality food. BBQ pork and shrimp fried rice is excellent value. Remember to sign up for the Casino’s Encore Program, staff at the Casino can help you print lots of goodies like the $10 dollar voucher and gambling credits. You can get pretty cheap eats in the casino that way. The voucher is good for any restaurant inside the Casino only.

Facilities

The Delta in Burnaby had a fairly standard set of facilities available, including a fitness center, conference and boardrooms, a very large casino, and several restaurant options.

And don’t forget about Starbucks!

Fitness Center

The fitness center was fairly minimal but had all the basics: treadmills, ellipticals, a few weight machines, and a set of dumbbells. Sadly no squat rack.

There was also a hot tub and sauna, however, these were unfortunately closed during my stay due to COVID.

Grand Villa Casino

The Delta Burnaby is home to a very large casino: The Grand Villa Casino

Unfortunately, picture taking wasn’t allowed inside the casino so this is the best you’re going to get.

The Grand Villa Casino is also part of the Encore Rewards program, for those familiar with it. If you are new to the area, I suggest signing up for their loyalty program. It comes with awesome perks like a couple of $10 meal vouchers at the Casino and extra gambling credits, for those who gamble. You can also find some cheap eats using the $10 voucher coupon at Chows restaurant in the Casino. Food quality is quite good and most dishes range from $5-11.

Conclusion

Overall I had a very enjoyable, if short and sweet stay at the Delta Hotels Burnaby Conference Centre. I would recommend staying here for anyone visiting Vancouver in general. If you can find a good rate south of $129 CAD, and have Marriott elite status that can upgrade your room, you can’t go wrong.
