BEST WAY TO REDEEM
Tim Horton’s Products

Tim Horton’s is a symbol of Canadian culture, with its signature red signage and identity. As Canada’s largest fast food chain, Tim Hortons offers an interesting rewards program that you can take advantage of the next time you order a double-double!

Earning Tims Rewards Points

Make Purchases at Tim Hortons

Earning Tims Rewards is quite simple, where each dollar spent equals 10 points whenever you order online through the app when signed in or scan your membership barcode at the counter. The earning rate is the same whether you scan at checkout or set up auto reloads to the mobile Tims Gift Card.

If you want to maximize your points earning, consider using a credit card with a high points multiplier for restaurants. The American Express Cobalt Card is one of the best cards for earning points at restaurants and grocery stores, with a multiplier of 5 Membership Rewards per dollar spent.

Although most Tim Hortons locations accept American Express as a payment method, there are a select few that do not for whatever reason. Instead, refill the digital Tims Card in app with your Cobalt and you’ll be able to collect the 5x points on each purchase.

In-App Offers

Similar to Starbucks Rewards, Tim Hortons offers promotional deals through its mobile app, allowing members to access exclusive offers. Typically, these are bundle deals where you purchase one item to receive a discount on another, or a set discount when you buy two items. Sometimes, free items are offered when you make a specific purchase or use their delivery service.

Tim Hortons sometimes offers challenges where you have to purchase the same item multiple times within a limited timespan to earn a significant amount of points. The National Coffee Day Challenge example below requires four separate coffee purchases before receiving 400 bonus points, which can be redeemed for another brewed coffee.

Redeeming Tims Rewards Points

As mentioned in our Canadian Coffee Rewards Showdown, Tim Hortons does have a better return on spend when it comes to coffee redemptions if you make your purchase with their co-branded credit card, the Tims Mastercard. However, without it Tim Hortons still has other food and beverage items that might be worth collecting points for.

There are 7 redemption tiers at Tim Hortons. Various food items can be redeemed at every level but drink redemptions start at 400 points up to 800 points.

Maximizing the Tims Rewards Program

Combining Offers

Interestingly, unlike most other food rewards programs, Tims Rewards allows for offer stacking, where you can combine different promotions or redemptions simultaneously.

For example, SPC+ members receive a complimentary beverage as an offer when they order a certain food item, like a lunch sandwich. Multiple times during the summer, I was able to redeem my Tims Rewards points for a loaded wrap, and I was also able to use the free beverage SPC+ offer for a free lunch and drink. The free offer can vary depending on the time of year, where it was any iced drink during the summer and coffee during August and September 2025.

Tims Financial Credit Card

Powered by Neo, Tim Hortons offers a credit card that can enhance the earning potential. The earning rate of the card is 5 points per $1 spent, boosting the earning rate to 15 points for every dollar when scanning your Tims Rewards barcode when paying in store or when ordering ahead in the Tims Rewards app.

Sometimes, Tims Financial offers a sign up bonus when you apply for their credit card. Their latest offer lasted from May to June 2025, where each successful application came with $20 gift card sign-up bonus. You were also able to refer up to 50 others for a credit card, where both you and your referral would receive a $20 gift card on each referral.

Moreover, pairing your Tim Hortons purchases with the credit card will give you the best return on spend compared to other coffee chains in Canada.

Canadian Tire Triangle and Tim Hortons Rewards Collaboration

In September 2025, Canadian Tire and Tim Hortons announced that there would be a collaboration between the two loyalty programs. Although there are no details so far regarding what the benefits would be when accounts are linked. It does mention that there will be opportunities for cross-earning, where Canadian Tire Triangle Rewards users can earn from their Tim Hortons purchases.  We can also assume that there will be offers for each program’s apps as well, like a Tim Hortons discount offer in the Triangle Rewards app or vice versa.

If you haven’t gotten one already, you should consider picking up a Canadian Tire Triangle World Elite Mastercard if you tend to shop at Canadian Tire!

Regional Price Differences

If you’re looking to get as much value out of each point as possible, you can save your points until you travel to somewhere with a higher cost. For example, a Classic Donut before applicable taxes in Vancouver would be $1.69, but the same donut costs $2.39 in Yellowknife due to extra shipping and preparation costs associated with living in the Northwest Territories.

You can also consider the different tax guidelines in each province as well. For BC and Ontario, a Frozen Quencher is only charged 5% GST, whereas most fast food dispensed beverages in Quebec are charged 14.975%. Connecting back to the prices in Yellowknife, NWT, the same drink would total $5.45 after tax.
