Earning Cash Back
The American Express SimplyCash card earns cash back for all purchases made on the card:
- 2% cash back on all eligible gas station purchases in Canada.
- 2% cash back on all eligible grocery purchases in Canada (up to a maximum of $300 in cash back per year).
- 1.25% cash back on all other purchases, regardless of category.
Redeeming Cash Back
Cash back rewards earned on the American Express SimplyCash Preferred card are awarded once per year automatically, on the September billing statement.

Insurance Coverage
The American Express SimplyCash credit card offers three types of insurance coverage:
- Travel accident insurance: $100,000 of accidental death and dismemberment coverage
- Purchase protection plan: $1,000 coverage for accidental physical damage or theft for 90 days from the date of purchase
- Buyer’s assurance protection plan: Extend the manufacturer’s original warranty up to one additional year
