Check out our RBC Avion Visa Infinite card review for more details.
Earning Avion Points
The RBC Avion Visa Infinite credit card earns Avion Rewards points for all purchases made on the card:
- 1.25 Avion Rewards points for every dollar spent on all merchants that code as travel within the Visa network.
- 1 Avion Rewards point for every dollar spent on all purchases on the card.
Redeeming Avion Rewards Points
Avion Rewards points are a valuable and flexible currency that can be transferred to several frequent flyer programs to maximize their value.
Avion Rewards points can be transferred to frequent flyer programs at the following rates:
- American Airlines AAdvantage at a 1:0.7 ratio
- British Airways Avios at a 1:1 ratio
- Cathay Pacific Asia Miles at a 1:1 ratio
- WestJet Rewards at a 1:1 ratio
Members who are interested in redeeming their Avion Rewards points for flights can utilize the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule, where a fixed number of points can be used to cover an airline ticket up to a set dollar value.
RBC Avion points can also be redeemed for gift cards, merchandise, statement credits, and more, but the value of these redemption methods is far less than using these points for travel or transferring them to a partner frequent flyer program.

I’m an existing credit card holder with RBC, would I be able to apply to have the same benefits and perks? Or is it for new sign up only?
Hi Scott,
I would refer to the terms and conditions of the welcome offer of the RBC credit card that you are interested in to determine eligibility. Typically, you will be eligible if you don’t currently hold that existing card, but your mileage may vary.
I applied for this card Jan 5 2024 – I think there was an extra bonus through FF (i.e. standard promo was 35K points and FF offered 20K more through signup). I only got the 35K though. Am I misremembering/is there a way to backtrace this?
Hi Geoff,
Frugal Flyer has never had an exclusive offer that was different than the public offer for this card. Frugal Flyer only offers cash back rebates on top of the welcome bonus offered by the financial institution. Additionally, the extra 20,000 Avion was tied to a spend requirement of $5,000 in 3 months. Using the wayback machine, I can see that the 55k bonus ended in November 2023: https://web.archive.org/web/20231006145809/https://www.rbcroyalbank.com/credit-cards/travel/rbc-avion-visa-infinite.html.
Hopefully the 55k offer and rebates on the Avion cards come back soon enough!
I want to apply for two cards at once – wither regular and business Avion, or one Avion and one Avios.
Is there a way to get approved (I’ve read somewhere that RBC rejects applications made within 90 days of previously approved ones) and incur only one credit check, like it happens with CIBC cards when one applies in-branch?
Also – if I request upgrade from RBC Rewards +, will I be eligible for Avion bonus? I guess there is no Frugal Flyer cashback for the upgrades.
Hi Stephen,
RBC will only approve one new credit card every 90 days, no way around that.
I can’t speak to upgrades as I don’t have any experience with RBC offering those, but product switches will only post the reduced public offer (e.g. 15k Avion for the RBC Avion VI). A new card is the best way to go if you are looking for the best welcome bonus.
What happens if at the application stage they only approve you for the platinum?
Hi Sidharth,
If you apply for the RBC Avion Visa Infinite but are approved for the RBC Avion Platinum card, you would be eligible for that welcome bonus. The bonuses are usually identical on both cards though, so it isn’t a problem.
Sorry, I meant what happens to the rebate?
Sid
Hey Sid,
I believe you should still be eligible, but I can’t say that with 100% certainty. Ultimately RBC will decide if the credit card approval is commissionable, and if so, we will pay out the rebate on the sign-up.
Hello
I applied for the RBC Avion infinite card through frugal but I did not receive a confirmation email, Iβm not sure if one is sent.
Please let me know.
Thank you very much.
Edward Gonsalves
Hey Edward,
Please email [email protected] and clarify if you mean a confirmation email from RBC, or from Frugal Flyer?
Regards,
Reed
