The United® MileagePlus® Neo World Elite® Mastercard® is Now Available

united mileageplus neo world elite mastercard launch featured image

Neo is quickly becoming an important bank to the Canadian Points and Miles community as they’ve snagged deals not only for the Cathay Pacific co-branded credit card, but now also the United MileagePlus Neo World Elite Mastercard. The card poses some interesting value propositions and can be a low-cost way to access more United Airlines Polaris business class award space.

With this exciting new card launching today, I’m here to break down all the details you need to know.

The United MileagePlus Neo World Elite Mastercard is Here

The United Mastercard has a welcome bonus of up to 25,000 MileagePlus miles, broken into the following tranches:

  • Earn 5,000 MileagePlus miles on card activation
  • Earn 15,000 MileagePlus miles upon spending $3,000 in the first 3 months
  • Earn 5,000 MIleagePlus miles per year as a renewal bonus

It’s important to know that to get the 5,000 anniversary miles, you must put at least one eligible charge on the card, other than the annual fee, every 365 days.

If you signed up for the waitlist offer to get an extra 5,000 miles, apply quickly! If you signed up, you’re eligible for the additional miles.

The card has an annual fee of $89 and comes with a host of United travel benefits we’ll get to later. Considering the 5,000-mile anniversary bonus could be worth about $70 CAD in value, and United miles don’t expire, the effective cost for the card is low if you’ll get value from your United miles.

The income requirements are similar to those for the Aeroplan Core credit cards, requiring $80,000 in personal income or $150,000 in household income. There’s also a secured version of this card available if you prefer or are unable to acquire credit products.

The everyday spending categories are a bit below average, but this is the only way to directly earn United MileagePlus miles in Canada, other than flying. You’ll earn:

  • 1.25 MileagePlus miles per $1 spent on United & Star Alliance flights
  • 1 MileagePlus mile per $1 spent on dining & groceries
  • 0.75 MileagePlus miles per $1 spent everywhere else

Plus, cardholders will earn extra MileagePlus miles at over 10,000 Neo partners across Canada.

Benefits of the United MileagePlus Neo World Elite Mastercard

United Airlines Benefits

As a cardholder, you’ll receive the following benefits when flying with United Airlines:

  • First Free Checked Bag on United Operated Flights (a great way to save on United Airlines baggage fees)
  • Group 2 Priority Boarding for the cardholder and their guests
  • Earn at Least 3 United miles per $USD spent (Even on Basic Economy)

While you’ll only be flying United if you’re traveling to the US as a Canadian, they’re certainly well-connected from most large Canadian cities. For example, United serves 7 routes from Vancouver! Even smaller airports like Regina, Winnipeg, and Halifax have service from United.

While we might not think of United as a major airline in Canada, it connects more US cities to Canada than Porter and Delta do. If you’re a Canadian and have plans to visit the US, there’s a high probability that United will show up in your airfare search. Meaning just one round trip could pay for your annual fee in checked luggage fees.

However, it’s important to note that, unlike the Aeroplan co-branded cards, the first free checked bag benefit only applies to the cardholder; traveling companions on the same itinerary are not included.

Access to More Polaris Awards

A new benefit of being a cardmember is access to Saver Polaris and business-class awards that were previously available only to Platinum and 1K members.

This could be a huge reason to acquire the card if you already have a huge stash of United miles to use up. But also remember that Marriott Bonvoy points transfer to United at a preferable 2:1 rate compared with 3:1 to most airlines.

10% Discount on United Awards

Another new benefit for all United cardholders as of April 2026 is an exciting one! If you hold the Neo United Mastercard or any United Chase Visa card issued in the United States, you’ll receive a 10% discount on all saver award redemptions. This would mean not only do you get access to more saver award availability, but you’ll save 10% compared to a MileagePlus Gold member who doesn’t have a credit card.

If you’re able to book long-haul business class awards at 80,000 per seat, you’ll maximize this benefit, saving 8,000 miles and only spending 72,000 miles to fly over an ocean in a lie-flat seat, which is an excellent price. As a reminder, the average price to fly from North America to Europe with Star Alliance partners through Aeroplan is 70,000 points, and you won’t have access to expanded saver inventory when booking through Aeroplan.

Travel Benefits & Insurance

One nice aspect of the United Mastercard is that it’s the only credit card with an annual fee under $100 CAD that gives a $120 USD Nexus credit every 5 years. Less exciting is a complimentary membership to DragonPass, which doesn’t include any free visits. So you’ll be on the hook for a per-person entry fee that’s usually $32 USD or more.

There are a few travel insurance benefits on the card as well:

  • Emergency Medical Insurance
  • Comprehensive Travel Insurance
  • Extended Warranty & Purchase Protection
  • Auto Rental Collision Loss Damage

However, be sure to read the insurance terms and conditions to understand them before booking with the card and expecting coverage.

The Value Offered By The United Airlines MileagePlus Program

My favorite uses for redeeming miles in the United Airlines MileagePlus program are for short hops with Star Alliance Partners. For example, I redeemed 6,000 United miles to fly to the JW Marriott Crete resort with Aegean Airlines. But there’s also a lot of value to be had in hopping around Europe in peak summer travel.

It’s worth noting that Air Canada Aeroplan charges significantly more in taxes and fees compared to United MileagePlus redemptions.

While you may think Business Class is half the price with Air Canada, remember that intra-Europe business class is simply economy with the middle seat blocked. Unless you have many bags to check, it’ll be a better value to save points and fly in economy on the short-haul flight.

United has also been favoring its own members when it comes to “saver” level tickets. For example, I’ve used 15,000 miles per person to book flights from Chicago to Vancouver when those seats weren’t available through any Star Alliance partner programs like Aeroplan or LifeMiles. While rare, you may be able to find Polaris seats priced at 80,000-100,000 points per person to Australia, New Zealand, or Southeast Asia. Going forward, expect those tickets to be available only to United credit card holders.

There’s a more advanced strategy here as well. If you’ve got lots of Chase Ultimate Rewards or BILT Rewards and are a Canadian resident, you could easily grab the secured version of this card to unlock the extra Polaris award availability, then transfer your points to United. Remember that Marriott Bonvoy transfers to United at a 2:1 ratio as well.

If you manage to rack up 88,000 United miles, you can use them for a business class flight to anywhere in Africa, which is the lowest pricing of any Star Alliance partner. Given the abundance of Ethiopian Airlines availability, you should be able to redeem your miles at a great value.

Conclusion

The United Mastercard is a niche addition to the Canadian Points and Miles universe. While there’s not a ton of value for everyday spending, if you’re a frequent United traveler without Elite status, there’s undoubtedly a benefit to holding the card for a free checked bag and zone 2 boarding on your future travels.
