Earning American Express Membership Rewards

The American Express Platinum Card earns Membership Rewards points for all purchases made on the card:

  • 5 Membership Rewards points for every dollar spent on flights booked directly with airlines or through Amex Travel (up to $500,000 USD of flight purchases per calendar year).
  • 5 Membership Rewards points for every dollar spent on prepaid hotels booked on American Express Travel.
  • 1 Membership Rewards point for every dollar spent on all other purchases.

Redeeming American Express Membership Rewards

The best and highest-value use for American Express Membership Rewards points is to transfer them to a variety of airline frequent flyer and hotel loyalty program partners for your next redemption:

  • Transferrable at 1:1 ratio: Air Canada Aeroplan, Alitalia, Aer Lingus Avios, Air France KLM Flying Blue, ANA, Avianca LifeMiles, British Airways Avios, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, Delta Air Lines, Emirates SkyWards, Etihad Airways, Hawaiian Airlines, Iberia Avios, Qantas, Qatar Airways Privilege Club, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Choice Privileges, and Marriott Bonvoy
  • Transfers at a 1:0.8 ratio: JetBlue TrueBlue
  • Transfers at a 1:2 ratio: Hilton Honors
  • Transfers at a 1:1.6 ratio: Aeromexico Rewards

American Express Membership Rewards can also be redeemed for travel booked through the Amex Travel Portal, statement credit, gift cards, and more.

Benefits

Semi-Annual $300 Fine Hotels & Resorts or Hotel Collection Credit

Cardholders can receive up to a semi-annual $300 USD statement credit toward a prepaid Fine Hotels and Resorts booking (minimum of a one-night stay) or a prepaid Hotel Collection booking (minimum of a two-night stay). Learn how you can get the most value from the Amex $300 hotel credit.

Annual $200 Airline Credit

American Express Platinum cardholders are eligible to receive up to an annual $200 USD statement credit towards airline incidental fees (including seat selection, baggage fees, and more).

Cardholders will need to pick an eligible US-based airline from a defined list, and this credit can only be used for incidentals on that airline.

Monthly $25 Digital Entertainment Credit

Cardholders can receive up to a monthly $25 USD digital entertainment statement credit, up to a total of $300 per year. This credit can be used towards an Audible, Paramount+, YouTube Premium, YouTube TV, Disney+, The Disney+ Bundle, ESPN+, Hulu, Peacock, Wall Street Journal, or New York Times membership.

Quarterly $100 Resy Restaurant Credit

Cardholders can receive up to a quarterly $100 USD Resy statement credit after making eligible purchases directly with Resy or for dining purchases at any U.S. Resy restaurant.

American Express Global Lounge Collection

American Express Platinum cardholders receive complimentary access to the Amex Global Lounge Collection for themselves (and a guest, depending on the lounge entry requirements; details can be found by looking at the specific lounge on the American Express website).

Cardholders will also receive access to Centurion airport lounges for themselves, such as the Denver Centurion Lounge. Additional guests can enter but will be charged a rate of $50 for adults and $30 for children.

10 Complimentary Delta Sky Club Visits

Cardholders will receive 10 complimentary visits to Delta Sky Clubs when flying on an eligible Delta Air Lines flight.

Hotel Loyalty Program Status

Cardholders will receive Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status, Hilton Honors Gold status, and Leading Hotels of the World (LHW) Sterling Status as a benefit for holding the card. Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status isn’t very notable, but Hilton Honors Gold status offers the valuable Hilton Honors breakfast benefit.

Monthly $12.95 Walmart+ Credit

Cardholders are eligible to receive up to a monthly $12.95 USD statement credit towards a Walmart+ membership when the charge is billed to their American Express Platinum card.

Monthly $15 Uber Credit & Uber One Membership Credit

Cardholders will receive up to a monthly $15 USD Uber statement credit, with an extra $20 credit in December (totaling a $35 statement credit in December), for a total of $200 per year. This credit can be used for Uber or Uber Eats purchases in the United States.

Cardholders will also receive up to $120 USD in statement credits each calendar year with an auto-renewing Uber One Membership in the United States.

To receive this benefit, you must have downloaded the latest version of the Uber App, and your eligible American Express Platinum Card must be a method of payment on your Uber account. The Amex Benefit may only be used in the United States.

Semi-Annual $50 Saks Credit

American Express Platinum cardholders are eligible to receive up to a semi-annual $50 USD Saks Fifth Avenue statement credit, up to a total of $100 per year.

Quarterly $75 Lululemon Credit

Cardholders are eligible to receive up to a quarterly $75 USD Lululemon statement credit, which can be used towards purchases at Lululemon stores or Lululemon.com in the United States.

Annual $200 Oura Credit

Cardholders can receive up to an annual $200 USD Oura statement credit when purchasing an Oura Ring through Ouraring.com.

Annual $209 CLEAR Credit

Cardholders will receive up to an annual $209 USD statement credit toward a new CLEAR membership or membership renewal.

Annual $300 Equinox Credit

Cardholders can receive up to an annual $300 USD Equinox statement credit when using their American Express Platinum card to pay for an Equinox+ digital subscription or an Equinox club membership.

    • Hi De,

      This is correct. It’s worth looking deeper into any US cards before applying. For example, while this card offers Uber Cash it is only usable in the United States. This means it still has value, but you will unlikely be able to extract the full value from this perk. Similarly, the digital entertainment credit is only good for US-based accounts.

      On the other hand, the Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts credit works just fine for Canadians.
