Welcome Bonus
Eligible new applicants for the CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card can receive a welcome bonus of up to 85,000 Aeroplan points:
- Earn 20,000 Aeroplan points upon first purchase
- Earn 30,000 Aeroplan points upon spending $15,000 in the first 6 months
- Earn 35,000 Aeroplan points upon reaching your cardholder anniversary after spending $25,000 in the first 12 months
Earning Aeroplan Points
The CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege card earns Aeroplan points for all purchases made on the card:
- 2 Aeroplan points for every dollar spent on Air Canada purchases, including Air Canada Vacations.
- 1.5 Aeroplan points for every dollar spent on gas, electric vehicle charging, groceries, travel, and dining.
- 1.25 Aeroplan points for every dollar spent on all other purchases.
Redeeming Aeroplan Points
Air Canada Aeroplan points are best used towards flight redemptions, whether on Air Canada or any of their partner airlines. Aeroplan bookings follow the pricing outlined in the Aeroplan Award Chart, and the best value is often found in booking partner airlines.
Flights on Air Canada can be dynamically priced, so follow our award flight booking best practices to ensure you pay the least amount of Aeroplan points possible for your next redemption.
Aeroplan points can also be redeemed for hotels, car rentals, merchandise, and gift cards. We advise against redeeming your points for these options as the value is far below what you can receive when booking flight redemptions.
Benefits
Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge Access
CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege cardholders receive complimentary airport lounge access when entering Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges across the network.
Complimentary Maple Leaf Lounge access is provided for the cardholder and one additional guest. Passengers must have a same-day boarding pass for an Air Canada or Star Alliance member airline flight in order to access the lounge.
Free First Checked Bag on Air Canada Flights
When booking an Air Canada flight, cardholders are eligible to receive a free first checked bag on Air Canada flights. This benefit extends to up to 8 guests who are traveling on the cardholder’s itinerary and is a great way to save on Air Canada baggage fees.
Air Canada Priority Services
CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege cardholders (and up to eight of their guests on the same itinerary) receive access to several Air Canada priority benefits that include priority check-in, priority zone 2 boarding, and priority baggage handling.
Priority check-in and priority zone 2 boarding can save a lot of time and stress, whereas priority bag handling can be hit-or-miss depending on the ramp agents handling your baggage.
Earn SQM & SQS Towards Aeroplan Elite Status
For every $5,000 in net purchases on the card, the cardholder will earn 1,000 status qualifying miles (SQM) and 1 status qualifying segment (SQS) towards Air Canada Aeroplan status.
Air Canada Elite status comes with some very valuable benefits; see our Air Canada Aeroplan status guide for more details.
Six Dragonpass Airport Lounge Passes
CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege cardholders are eligible to receive complimentary membership to the Dragonpass lounge program, in addition to six complimentary airport lounge passes.
$100 NEXUS Credit
CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege cardholders can also receive a $100 NEXUS application fee rebate every 48 months. This is given in the form of a statement credit when using your CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege card to pay for a NEXUS application fee or NEXUS membership renewal. This rebate will partially cover the $120 USD new application or renewal fee.
Air Canada Roll Over Benefits
Cardholders are eligible to roll over status qualifying miles (SQM) and eUpgrade credits to the following calendar year. Refer to the terms and conditions of the CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege card to better understand how this benefit works.
Earn an Air Canada Worldwide Companion Pass
Upon spending $25,000 in an anniversary year, the cardholder will receive an Air Canada Worldwide Companion Pass. Starting at $99 (and increasing depending on destination), this pass allows the cardholder to book a cash fare on Air Canada for themselves and a companion at a discount.
Once earned, the companion pass will show up on your Aeroplan account. The cardholder will pay the full cost of the fare (taxes and fees included), while the companion will only have to pay the applicable companion ticket fee (+ any fees/taxes associated with the ticket).
