In March 2025, I was fortunate to be able to attend Montana’s Brier in Kelowna to watch some curling for the second year in a row. Less fortunately, there were very few accommodation options available with convenient proximity to Prospera Place where the Brier was being hosted.
The Hyatt Place Kelowna hotel was an option we ended up settling on, as it was a relatively convenient location in east Kelowna and affordable. To this point, I’d never stayed at a Hyatt Place before so I was eager to see what the brand had to offer.
Read on for my review of the Hyatt Place Kelowna.
Booking & Check-in
I booked two rooms at the Hyatt Place Kelowna for approximately $150 per night using a corporate rate code. This was a relatively average price under normal circumstances, but a great deal considering the surge pricing for the Brier championship weekend dates, which saw prices rise as high as $400 per night for this property. Predictably, availability at other hotels closer to downtown was incredibly sparse.

Check-in went smoothly on the day of arrival. We arrived early around 2:00 PM. The small hotel check-in desk was located front and center, immediately upon entering the lobby. The agent there promptly took payment and deposit while explaining the available amenities, including where the complimentary continental breakfast would be offered each morning.

Hyatt Place branded hotels are known to offer complimentary continental breakfast, at a minimum, to all guests. However, allegedly, some Hyatt Place hotels have now begun charging a small upcharge for access to the continental breakfast for non-status members. When I called in advance of our stay I was actually told we would have to pay $8 per person for the breakfast.

However, we seemingly lucked out as breakfast was coincidentally included in the corporate rate I booked. This was a relief as I was not sure the breakfast was worth paying for, with so many other great restaurant options located in Kelowna.
Location

Hyatt Place Kelowna is centrally located at 1915 Enterprise Way in Kelowna, British Columbia, V1Y 9S9. This central location provides convenient access to various local attractions, dining options, and business centers.
The hotel is approximately a 12-minute walk from Orchard Park Mall, a major shopping destination in the area. It is also about a 4-minute drive from both Kelowna General Hospital and Prospera Place, a popular event venue, and the venue where we would be attending the Montana’s Brier to watch curling each day of our trip. This was located in downtown Kelowna, for reference.
Parking
Underground self-serve parking is available to hotel guests at an affordable daily rate of CA$12.00.
Room – 2 Queen Beds (Plus Sofa Bed)
Our rooms were located on the fourth floor of the hotel, #424 and #425. The hallways throughout the hotel were modern and had an abstractly patterned carpet.

Stepping into the room, the bathroom was immediately to the left, while the main room opened up to a spacious living room area with two queen beds, and a large sectional couch with ottoman.

This couch does convert to a sofa bed, but it wasn’t needed in that capacity during our stay.
The view from the room overlooked the front of the hotel. It wasn’t anything spectacular, but natural lighting is always appreciated in a hotel room. There was both a drape and a shade which gave a granular control over the amount of light entering the room.

The beds were set up side by side with one shared side table in the middle. However with the space on the window ledge, it didn’t ever feel crowded for table space.

Directly across from the beds was the standalone closet, a credenza with smart television (Chromecast enabled), and a small desk with chair.

On the office desk space was a small unbranded coffee maker. This was probably the least modern aspect of the room, but I’m not especially picky when it comes to hotel room coffee. As long as there is something, I’m happy.
Underneath the desk were two cubbies with coffee amenities, drinkware, and an ice bucket. There was also a mini fridge in the credenza under the TV, which was empty and ready to accept the questionable alcohol purchases we would make over the weekend.

As with the rest of the hotel, the bathroom felt brand new and offered a perfect amount of counter space for two people to share. The shower and toilet were both up to par as well. The amenities were provided by KenetMD.

Restaurants & Bars
The Placery
The Placery is the one and only restaurant available on the property. It has fairly informal seating options, and serves a variety of casual options for lunch and dinner, like burgers, sandwiches, steak frites, and lots of shareables. You can view their full menu here.

We didn’t eat here for lunch or dinner, but we sat here for our breakfast each morning at the Breakfast Bar, which is served in the same area.
Breakfast Bar
Located within The Placery, the Breakfast Bar is a self-serve continental breakfast offered every morning for hotel guests. Its hours are as follows:
- Mondays-Fridays: 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM
- Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays: 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM
I was actually quite impressed with what was offered by this complimentary breakfast. They had a lot of fresh options from scrambled eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, fresh fruit, egg bakes, a waffle station, bagels and toast, yogurt with granola, and more.

There wasn’t a ton of variety between days, with only one to two items changing out, like from waffles to pancakes or pancake bites. Still, it wasn’t a disappointing breakfast by any means.

The server was always prompt to offer us coffee as soon as we sat down, which was appreciated.
The Market
The Market is a self-serve, self-checkout snack bar and essentials store. You can find everything from drinks and microwave dinners to Advil and shaving cream here.

The Market is located next to the lobby, in a little nook within the Placery. I stopped here on a few occasions to stock up for the day and also for a late-night snack.
More hotels should have stations like this for guests, as it offers extreme convenience.
The Market is open 24/7.
Kali Lounge

The Kali Lounge is a small rooftop lounge featuring small bites, cocktails, and local wines. It is open from May to October. During our stay in March it was not yet open, so we were not able to experience the lounge.
Facilities
Fitness Center
The Hyatt Place Kelowna had a small minimalist fitness center located on the lobby level adjacent to the pool. It was clean and modern, with some good natural lighting.

The fitness center had just the bare bones in terms of equipment, including free weights, a few treadmills, one bench, a rowing machine, and a pulley machine. The gym was typically empty but anytime there was even just one other person in the gym it felt crowded.
The fitness center was open 24/7.
Indoor Pool & Hot Tub
Hyatt Place Kelowna had an indoor pool and hot tub. The pool was a good size with multiple entry ladders.

The hot tub was also a nice addition along with a few lounging chairs. There were always plenty of towels available for guests, although the pool and hot tub were not staffed.
The pool and hot tub were open from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily.
Conclusion
The Hyatt Place Kelowna turned out to be a great hotel for our purposes as spectators for a sporting event at Prospera Place for a weekend. The hotel was modern and clean and had all the bare necessities.
I was pleasantly surprised by the decent breakfast offering, for a continental breakfast, and the quality of service. I would absolutely recommend the Hyatt Place Kelowna and would consider staying at a Hyatt Place property again in the future, whether in Canada or elsewhere.
