The $150 annual travel credit can be applied towards various ancillary travel expenses including airport parking, baggage fees, seat selection, access to airline lounges, and airline ticket upgrades.

This travel credit renews annually on January 1st meaning that depending on when you sign up for the card, you may be able to “double-dip” two travel credits within one cardholder year.

À La Carte Rewards Program

À la Carte rewards points are the in-house rewards program at National Bank and they can be redeemed for a variety of options. However, the best value can be extracted by using your points for travel purchases:

  • Travel purchases that have been booked with the À la carte rewards travel agency.
    • Points can be redeemed at a rate of 1 cent per point (10,000 points = $100).
  • Travel purchases that have been booked on your own externally.
    • Points can be redeemed at a rate of 0.833 cents per point (12,000 points = $100) and the value increases the more points you redeem (up to 0.909 cents per point for a $500 redemption).

The best value for your À la Carte rewards points is to redeem them against travel bookings made through the À la Carte Rewards travel agency. A close second is to redeem them against travel you have booked on your own.

Conclusion

The National Bank credit cards, particularly the World Elite, offer some great value to Canadians who are looking for a credit card for their travel-related needs. We recommend looking into all three National Bank cards to determine which one is best for your lifestyle before applying.
