I stayed at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott as the finale to my 30th birthday trip, which featured Air Canada’s most controversial business class, American Airlines’ Flagship Business class, and a superbike racing school. It was an excellent place to relax after two days of physical abuse on a superbike that was designed with only performance in mind.
On top of the typical Marriott hospitality, it also featured some excellent plane spotting!
Booking & Check-in
I booked this stay on an industry rate, but this hotel is an excellent use of a Marriott Bonvoy free night certificate worth 35,000 Bonvoy points, as it’s often available for less than 50,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.
Even better, the Los Angeles Airport Marriott is often bookable at the 35,000 point mark exactly, meaning you won’t need to top up with additional points to make your redemption possible.

With the American Express Marriott Bonvoy card or the American Express Marriott Bonvoy Business card, you can easily obtain an annual free night certificate worth 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy points as a benefit for simply holding either credit card.

Check-in was seamless, as I had done most of the work through the Marriott Bonvoy App. Of course, there was a separate line for Marriott Bonvoy Elite Members. I was told I would receive breakfast in their club lounge (as part of the Marriott breakfast benefit) and have the option of a $10 food and beverage voucher or 1,000 bonus points as a welcome gift.

Location
The location of the hotel is excellent. It’s on the main drag into LAX, so most car rental shuttles have no problem dropping you off on the way to the airport.
Parking & Airport Shuttle
Parking is quite expensive at the property, at $60 USD per day or for overnight guests, so I would highly recommend dropping off your rental car if you’re staying here before an early morning flight.
The hotel shuttle from the airport is quite convenient and well organized, with a specific waiting area in the valet loop. It also stops at the Renaissance LAX, so it’s best to give yourself a bit of a buffer in timing to accommodate that extra stop.

Room – 1 King Bed, Guest Room
I don’t often stay in Marriott-branded hotels as I prefer the personalization that comes with other brands, such as the Autograph Collection or the luxurious feel of a Westin. This hotel certainly did the job for a comfortable one-night stay, but stepping through the door, you’re greeted with a colour palette best described as “renter beige.”

It’s not that there’s anything wrong with the room’s vibe, but I generally prefer my hotels to have a bit of funk, like the W Toronto.
To your left, you’ll find the mini-bar and closet, which are compactly designed into one unit. The closet is pretty tiny, but I could jam everything in here while photographing the rest of the room.

In typical Marriott fashion, everything is consistent, with the coffee setup being an exact carbon copy of my stay at the Marriott World Center Orlando. In a rather luxurious twist, the drinkware provided is a couple of ornate whisky glasses. The safe, fridge, and some extra storage are in the bottom half of the mini-bar/closet/vanity.

When you enter the room, the bathroom is to your right. It features a space-saving barn door and a lovely full-length mirror.

The bathroom does its job without many frills and is equipped with the usual basic Marriott-branded “this works” amenities.

The shower is what I like to call the “Marriott Standard” setup, with an overhead sprayer and a handheld option. I appreciate that Marriott upholds its excellent showers over almost all brands!

Moving out of the entry hallways and into the main room, you’re met with an inviting bed but rather uninspiring decor and colour palette. Each nightstand is equipped with standard plugs and USB-A charging, but I would’ve liked some USB-C charging options.

A nice addition that I hadn’t seen before was this pillow spray that mimics the Westin’s lavender eye-roller. It was a nice touch of luxury for what is usually a perfectly average hotel brand!

The rest of the room is nicely renovated, with a big-screen TV, luggage rack, small office area, and additional sitting area. I used the sitting area to do some work in the morning and got lucky to witness an Asiana A380 on final approach!

Restaurants & Bars
M Club Lounge – Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite Breakfast

This is quite simply one of the best M Club Lounges in existence, there’s no other way to describe it! The lounge is open 24/7, but only serves food in the following hours:
- Breakfast Every Day: 6:00 am to 9:30 am
- Dinner from Sunday to Thursday:
- Appetizers: 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm
- Desserts 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm
The lounge features floor-to-ceiling windows with sweeping views of LAX. It also has plenty of seating and a bar.

While I had access thanks to my Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite status (Platinum Elites are also welcome), I only attended breakfast at the M Club, but the spread was vast.
The food offerings were also quite spaced out, with drinks and eats at opposite sides of the room, which kept congestion at the buffet to a minimum.

I found a corner spot with fantastic runway views and enjoyed my eggs, sausage, potatoes, cereal, sparkling water, and cappuccino.

Hangar 18 Bar
After two days on a performance-inspired and uncompromising sport motorcycle, I was in search of a nightcap to soothe some of my tender muscles. I opted for the $10 food and beverage credit as a welcome gift rather than the 1,000 Marriott bonus points and used that credit here to cover a beer.
The staff was quite friendly, and the environment was an enjoyable place to wind down. The seating extended into the lobby, one of the more inspired parts of the hotel.

Facilities
Fitness Center
I didn’t visit the gym, but the stock photos make it look inviting and a step above most other airport hotels!

Pool
The pool was rather disappointing. Although it looks great in the photos online, during the winter months, it’s rather dilapidated. Also, the sun doesn’t start to hit it until about 10 or 11 a.m., depending on the time of year, so if you’ve got a one-night stay before a flight, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to enjoy this amenity.
However, I’m sure it’s lovely in its heyday!

Conclusion
The Los Angeles Airport Marriott is a perfectly average hotel with an excellent club lounge. In today’s day and age, club lounges are becoming more of an afterthought, but this Marriott has one of the best ones remaining! I would stay here again before an early morning flight departing LAX, and it is a great place to stay after a positioning flight from Canada to an exotic destination.
