Blue Rewards Is Now Live With Two New Credit Cards

A few months ago, it was announced that the AIR MILES loyalty program was transitioning to Blue Rewards, and that day has finally come. As of June 2nd, BMO has officially launched the Blue Rewards loyalty program, which includes the launch of two new credit cards.

Blue Rewards Has Now Officially Launched

While we previously wrote an article on the announcement of Blue Rewards, not much has changed since then. If you were a previous AIR MILES member with a balance, your existing AIR MILES will have already been converted to Blue points with no loss in value.

When it comes to the value of Blue points, 1,500 points will equal $10 CAD when redeeming in-store or for e-gift cards. If you are more focused on travel, Blue Rewards has expanded its relationship with Expedia for a broader range of travel options when redeeming your points. There is no minimum to redeem Blue points towards travel bookings, meaning you don’t necessarily need to save up to redeem, which is a great change.

New Blue Rewards Credit Cards

The new Blue Rewards program offers two credit cards that are similar to what was available for AIR MILES: a World Elite Mastercard version with extra benefits and a reasonable annual fee, and a Mastercard version that has no annual fee.

Conclusion

I think many of us in the world of miles, points, and loyalty programs were surprised when we learned that a brand such as AIR MILES, with years of goodwill and customer recognition behind it, was going to be rolled into an entirely new program in the form of Blue Rewards.

While we now have a good insight as to what BMO is building as they launch the Blue Rewards program, it will be interesting to see how this program develops over the years and if it will offer similar value to what we came to know and love about AIR MILES.
