If you are looking to book a simple flight itinerary and don’t want to deal with the hassle of finding award flight availability, loyalty programs like CIBC Aventura can present excellent value while offering a much simpler redemption avenue.

Enter the CIBC Aventura Airline Rewards Chart, which offers cardholders a redemption method in which they can redeem their Aventura points towards a round-trip flight ticket, up to a maximum base fare ticket price.

The lower end of redemption value that can be received from this method is far above the next best option, so it is absolutely worth it to consider redeeming your points via the Aventura Airline Rewards Chart.

Let’s get into everything you need to know about the CIBC Aventura Airline Rewards Chart and how you can get the most value out of your CIBC Aventura points.

What is the CIBC Aventura Airline Rewards Chart?

Through the CIBC Aventura Airline Rewards Chart, CIBC Aventura cardholders can redeem Aventura points for round-trip economy flights to receive a significant discount on their booking.

CIBC Aventura credit card holders will need to determine which destination category their desired flight will fall into to determine the range of Aventura points that the redemption will cost, and the maximum fare ticket price that will be covered.

While a range is provided, the actual Aventura points redemption cost will depend on the base fare portion of the ticket price that is set by the airline. Taxes and fees can be paid by credit card and are not covered when redeeming Aventura points through this method.

CIBC’s Aventura Airline Rewards Chart captures all of the relevant details you need to know when planning your redemption, including eligible destinations, CIBC Aventura points required, and the maximum ticket price:

Redemptions can be made through the CIBC Rewards Centre or by calling CIBC at 1-888-232-5656. Cardholders will need to redeem at least 80% of the required Aventura points to be eligible to make this redemption. If only 80% of the required Aventura points are redeemed, the remaining amount will be paid via cash at an unpublished rate.

For those familiar with other loyalty programs in Canada, this redemption option is similar to the RBC Air Travel Redemption Schedule, except that the Aventura award chart has a range of point costs, whereas the RBC Avion chart has a fixed points price.

CIBC Aventura Airline Rewards Chart Categories

The CIBC Aventura Airline Rewards Chart divides flight bookings into five different categories based on the itinerary that the cardholder wants to book. As mentioned above, pricing is based on a round-trip economy ticket for one passenger.

Members who hold the CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Privilege card can book round-trip business class tickets through the Aventura Airline Rewards Chart as well, which we will mention in the category sections below.

Canada & U.S. (Short-Haul)

The “Canada & U.S. (Short-Haul)” category includes any flight within a province, territory, or U.S. state or to an adjoining province or territory or U.S. state.

Redemptions in this category will cost 10,000 to 20,000 Aventura points for a round-trip economy flight that has a maximum base fare ticket price of $400.

If you can maximize the base fare ticket price, at a redemption rate of 10,000 Aventura points you will receive 4 cents per point, or 2 cents per point at a redemption rate of 20,000 Aventura points. Realistically, the value you receive will probably fall somewhere in between.

Members who hold the CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Privilege card can redeem 40,000 Aventura points for a round-trip business class flight that has a maximum base fare ticket price of $1,000. This redemption represents a value of 2.5 cents per Aventura point if the maximum value is reached.

Canada & U.S. (Long-Haul)

The “Canada & U.S. (Long-Haul)” category includes any flight from any location in Canada or the United States to any location in Canada or the United States (except Hawaii and Alaska).

Redemptions in this category will cost 25,000 to 35,000 Aventura points for a round-trip economy flight that has a maximum base fare ticket price of $800.

If you can maximize the base fare ticket price, at a redemption rate of 25,000 Aventura points you will receive 3.2 cents per point, or 2.29 cents per point at a redemption rate of 35,000 Aventura points. Realistically, the value you receive will probably fall somewhere in between.

Members who hold the CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Privilege card can redeem 70,000 Aventura points for a round-trip business class flight that has a maximum base fare ticket price of $1,750. This redemption represents a value of 2.5 cents per Aventura point if the maximum value is reached.

Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Central America, & Caribbean

The “Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Central America, & Caribbean” category includes any flight from any location in Canada or the United States to Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, Bermuda, Central America, or the Caribbean.

Redemptions in this category will cost 40,000 to 60,000 Aventura points for a round-trip economy flight that has a maximum base fare ticket price of $1,000.

If you can maximize the base fare ticket price, at a redemption rate of 40,000 Aventura points you will receive 2.5 cents per point, or 1.67 cents per point at a redemption rate of 6,000 Aventura points. Realistically, the value you receive will probably fall somewhere in between.

Members who hold the CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Privilege card can redeem 80,000 Aventura points for a round-trip business class flight that has a maximum base fare ticket price of $2,000. This redemption represents a value of 2.5 cents per Aventura point if the maximum value is reached.

Europe

The “Europe” category includes any flight from a major gateway in Canada or the United States to select destinations in Europe.

Redemptions in this category will cost 50,000 to 70,000 Aventura points for a round-trip economy flight that has a maximum base fare ticket price of $1,300.

If you can maximize the base fare ticket price, at a redemption rate of 50,000 Aventura points you will receive 2.6 cents per point, or 1.86 cents per point at a redemption rate of 70,000 Aventura points. Realistically, the value you receive will probably fall somewhere in between.

Members who hold the CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Privilege card can redeem 150,000 Aventura points for a round-trip business class flight that has a maximum base fare ticket price of $3,000. This redemption represents a value of 2 cents per Aventura point if the maximum value is reached.

Rest of the World

The “Rest of the World” category includes any flight from a major gateway in Canada or the United States to select destinations in Africa, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, South Pacific, the Middle East, or South America.

Redemptions in this category will cost 75,000 to 125,000 Aventura points for a round-trip economy flight that has a maximum base fare ticket price of $2,000

If you can maximize the base fare ticket price, at a redemption rate of 75,000 Aventura points you will receive 2.67 cents per point, or 1.6 cents per point at a redemption rate of 125,000 Aventura points. Realistically, the value you receive will probably fall somewhere in between.

Members who hold the CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Privilege card can redeem 250,000 Aventura points for a round-trip business class flight that has a maximum base fare ticket price of $5,000. This redemption represents a value of 2 cents per Aventura point if the maximum value is reached.

CIBC Aventura Airline Rewards Chart – Maximizing Value

Maximizing redemptions through the CIBC Aventura Flight Rewards Chart is a bit harder than other similar programs, since the Aventura points required will fall within a range and are not a fixed value. This means that while you will still want to aim to reach the maximum ticket price, it may not be necessary to maximize your cents per point received.

For example, if I am booking a round-trip economy flight between Edmonton (YEG) and Vancouver (YVR), this would fall within the Canada & U.S. (Short-Haul) category. That means that I could book a flight that costs 10,000 Aventura points, which has a cash price of $200, or a flight that costs 20,000 Aventura points, which has a cash price of $400.

While these two options have different redemption price points and cash values, they both work out to redeeming Aventura at a value of 2 cents per point. Receiving two cents per Aventura point is excellent value, so I wouldn’t hesitate to make either of these redemptions.

That being said, while you should look to obtain the most value from your Aventura points, you should still always book the flight that works best for your needs. I wouldn’t add a layover to an otherwise direct flight to get a better cent per point denomination; that is just being inefficient.

It’s also worth using Aventura points to book positioning flights as another great option to save money as part of a bigger vacation. If you need to get to a major hub before the main business class or first class flight of your vacation, this can present an excellent opportunity to redeem points and save a few dollars.

Considering the next best redemption option for Aventura points is CIBC’s Shopping with Points feature, which gives a value of one cent per point, it’s pretty easy to get more value from booking a flight through the Aventura Flight Rewards Chart.

How to Book a Flight with the CIBC Aventura Airline Rewards Chart

Once you have the required amount of Aventura points for your desired Airline Rewards Chart flight booking, log into your CIBC online banking account and click on the card you are interested in redeeming points on. From there, select the “CIBC Rewards” button, or you can directly visit the CIBC Rewards Centre hub.

Once you are in the CIBC Rewards Centre, you will want to select “Travel” as your redemption option to be taken to the CIBC Travel Portal, which is powered by Expedia. Here, you will be presented with the standard online travel agency search bar. Select “Flights” at the top and enter your desired route and dates, ensuring “Roundtrip” is selected.

On the results screen, you will see two pricing options you can toggle between: Flight Rewards and Flexible Travel. If you want to use the CIBC Aventura Airline Rewards Chart, you will want to select “Flight Rewards”.

Once you select the correct pricing option, you will see all eligible flights that fall within the pricing band listed in the Rewards Chart.

In a quick search of flights from Edmonton to Vancouver, I had a few WestJet flights priced at 10,000 Aventura points, but they booked into WestJet UltraBasic, which is WestJet’s worst fare class, so for my needs, I considered it to be not a great option.

I also had the option to book one of several Air Canada flights, which were priced higher at 16,500 Aventura points, but booked into a much more favorable fare class.

Once you select your desired flight, you will be able to select your desired fare class. The Air Canada flight I selected is booked into the Standard fare class when using the Airline Rewards Chart, which is a great option. While it will cost to check a bag, there are several ways to receive free checked baggage on Air Canada.

Once both flights are selected, you will land on the payment screen. On this page, your itinerary will be displayed, plus the total cost including the base fare in Aventura points and any applicable taxes and fees. In the below example, I was also short Aventura points, so there is an additional fee to make up for that difference.

Once payment is made, your booking will be finalized, and you will receive an email confirmation. Considering how easy it is to make an Aventura Airline Rewards Chart booking, coupled with how quickly you can earn CIBC Aventura points with the right Aventura credit card, this redemption option presents one of the best values that the loyalty program has to offer.
