When it comes to telecoms in Canada, many consumers rely on Rogers, Fido, or Shaw for their needs. Interestingly, Rogers offers a couple of financial products under the banner of Rogers Bank, including two Mastercard products.

One of these cards, the Rogers Mastercard, offers increased cash back earnings rates and redemption rates for those who are existing customers. Even better, this credit card offers these benefits with no annual fee.

Let’s take a look at everything you need to know about the Rogers Mastercard to see if it is worth adding this card to your wallet.

Overview

Earning Rates

The Rogers Mastercard earns cash back rewards for all purchases. The card has two separate earning rates depending on whether you are an existing Rogers, Fido, or Shaw customer.

If you are a Rogers, Fido, or Shaw customer, the earning rates are:

  • Earn 2% cash back on all eligible purchases.

If you are not a Rogers, Fido, or Shaw customer, the earning rates are:

  • Earn 2% cash back on all purchases made in US dollars.
  • Earn 1% cash back on all other purchases.

The earning rate of 2% cash back on all purchases in US dollars actually results in a 0.5% loss, as the card does charge a 2.5% foreign exchange fee on those transactions. If you are looking to save on this 2.5% fee, consider looking into the best credit cards with no foreign exchange fees in Canada.

Annual Fee

The Rogers Mastercard has no annual fee, making it a low-risk choice to add to your wallet. It is also one of the best credit cards with no annual fees for Canadians.

Benefits

The Rogers Mastercard has one main benefit, offering five free “Roam Like Home” days per year.

5 Free “Roam Like Home” Days Per Year

You can access the Rogers Roam Like Home option for 5 days per year with an eligible Rogers mobile plan (up to $75 value).

“Roam Like Home” is a service offered to Rogers mobile customers. For $12 per day in the U.S. and $15 per day in over 185 eligible international destinations, customers will receive full access to the data, talk, and text included in their monthly plan.

Customers can call and text Canadian numbers just as they would at home on their monthly plan, as well as numbers in the eligible destinations they’re visiting. The daily fee covers each calendar day of usage until 11:59:59 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), regardless of which time zone you are roaming in.

Any phone number on the Rogers account that is linked to the Rogers Mastercard account will access the Roam Like Home benefits automatically on a first come, first served basis.

Redeeming Rogers Mastercard Cash Back

Cash back can be redeemed in minimum increments of $10 and is redeemable via the Rogers Bank app once the minimum is reached.

Rogers, Fido and Shaw postpaid customers can get a 1.5x redemption bonus on Rogers, Fido and Shaw purchases – a 3% cash back value. This can include redeeming cash back against phone bills, phone purchases, or phone accessories.

Comparable Credit Cards

If you are looking for a credit card with no annual fees that will add value to your personal finance goals, there are a number of comparable credit cards that you should consider.

Rogers Red World Elite Mastercard

The Rogers Red World Elite Mastercard is another credit card with no annual fee that earns cash back on all purchases. The card earns 3% cash back on all purchases made in US dollars, 2% cash back on all eligible purchases for Rogers, Fido, and Shaw postpaid customers, and 1.5% cash back on all other purchases.

The Rogers Red World Elite Mastercard also offers a complimentary Boingo WiFi membership and several insurance coverages. However, this card also requires a minimum annual personal income of $80,000 or a minimum annual household income of $150,000.

We believe that the Rogers Mastercard is the stronger card of the two, but ensure you compare both options before determining which one is best for your wallet.

Tangerine World Mastercard

The Tangerine World Mastercard is a strong comparable option as it earns 2% cash back on all purchases in up to three categories of your choice.

Conclusion

The Rogers Mastercard is a great option for those Rogers, Fido, or Shaw customers who are looking to add a no annual fee credit card to their wallet. The earning rate of 2% is strong when you consider there are no annual fees, and the ability to redeem cash back for 50% more towards Rogers products makes it even better.
