If you’ve been involved with miles and points for some time, you are definitely familiar with RBC’s semi-regular transfer bonus, and if you aren’t familiar, you will want to be.
These promotions run a few times each year and allow RBC cardholders to transfer their Avion points to a partner frequent flyer program, such as British Airways Avios, with an increased transfer ratio. Thus, you can turn your Avion points into even more value as you work towards your next flight redemption.
RBC recently launched a 30% transfer bonus from Avion points to Avios points, so let’s get into the details.
Transfer RBC Avion Points to Avios With a 30% Transfer Bonus
RBC Avion points can be transferred to British Airways Avios with a 30% transfer bonus from May 11 to June 19th, 2026. This means that cardholders will receive 13 Avios for every 10 Avion points they transfer, up from the traditional 1:1 transfer ratio.
We typically see two of these transfer bonus opportunities per year, so this is a great time to transfer your points if you are interested in building your Avios balance for an upcoming redemption.

Taking advantage of this transfer bonus is simple. Sign in to your RBC online banking account and navigate to the RBC Avion Rewards section, and click travel. Scroll to the bottom to see all frequent flyer transfer programs (or just click here).

Simply go through the steps on that page, which involve selecting your desired transfer partner, entering your frequent flyer number, and the number of points you wish to transfer. A minimum of 10,000 Avion points must be transferred to Avios at a time, but increments as low as 1 point can be transferred after 10,000.
Note that the calculation of points that you will receive when processing the transfer on RBC’s website does not include the transfer bonus amount, but you will receive it in your British Airways Executive Club account as long as you initiate the transfer during the promotional period.
Once you submit the transfer request, you can expect to see the Avios points with the bonus in your British Airways Executive Club within four weeks. However, it is usually much quicker than their provided timelines.

Is It Worth It To Transfer Avion Points to Avios?
Yes, it is absolutely worth it to transfer Avion points to Avios when there isn’t a transfer bonus, so a 30% transfer bonus makes the value proposition ever sweeter. Since British Airways is part of the Oneworld alliance, redeeming Avios opens up access to partner airlines, including popular options like Japan Airlines, Qatar Airways, and Aer Lingus business class.
There are a few excellent redemptions you can make with Japan Airlines when redeeming Avios, including:
- Japan Airlines First Class – West Coast to Tokyo for 113,500 Avios (or 87,308 Avion points when transferred during a 30% bonus promotion)
- Japan Airlines Business Class – West Coast to Tokyo for 85,000 Avios (or 65,385 Avion points when transferred during a 30% bonus promotion)

Similarly, there are some standout redemptions with Qatar Airways, including:
- Qatar Airways QSuites – Toronto to Doha for 70,000 Avios (or 53,847 Avion points when transferred during a 30% bonus promotion)
- Qatar Airways Business Class – Toronto to Malé via Doha for 85,000 Avios (or 65,385 Avion points when transferred during a 30% bonus promotion)

This is far from an exhaustive list of redemption opportunities, but these are some of the most desirable redemptions with Avios in the miles and points community, and ones you should definitely aim for if you are travelling to that area of the world. Don’t forget that you can transfer Avios from British Airways Executive Club to other Avios airline partners as well, to unlock different redemption opportunities.
As an aside, while we always caution against speculatively transferring points without a plan, there can definitely be more of a case made for speculatively transferring during this bonus promotion when you consider many of the high-value redemption opportunities that Avios unlock, provided you have a concept of a plan when it comes to your next flight redemption.
