Whether you are just starting out as a sole proprietorship or have been operating for a few years as a corporation, you should always be looking to optimize your business financials, no different than how you would for your personal financial situation. Part of that is choosing the right credit card to maximize your rewards earning potential, especially if you are running significant spending through your business.
Once you start researching business credit cards, you may notice a gap in the market when it comes to business credit cards with a travel focus. While they do exist, there aren’t many strong all-around business travel credit cards that have a reasonable annual fee for those who don’t want an ultra-premium card. However, the Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite Business* card fits the bill and we consider it to be one of the best business credit cards in Canada.
Let’s take a look at the Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite Business* card to see if it is worth adding to your wallet as a business owner.

Annual Fee

Benefits
The Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite Business* card offers several travel-focused benefits that are easy to utilize for the cardholder who travels a few times a year.
No Foreign Transaction Fees
There are only a handful of credit cards in Canada that offer no foreign transaction fees on purchases in foreign currencies, and most are issued by Scotiabank. Additionally, the majority of these credit cards are personal credit cards, making them not a great fit for business needs.
However, the Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite Business* card also offers no foreign transaction fees†, a valuable benefit when traveling or doing business in foreign currencies, as it will save you the 2.5% typically charged by other credit cards on purchases made in foreign currencies that are charged to the card.
This means that for every $1,000 in purchases in foreign currencies that you make on your Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite Business* card, you will effectively save $25 over using a credit card that does not have this benefit and charges a foreign transaction fee of 2.5%. This can add up to real savings if you are transacting large dollar sums monthly in foreign currencies.
Six Complimentary Airport Lounge Passes
This card offers six complimentary airport lounge passes annually via the Visa Airport Companion Program.† These lounge passes can be used for the cardholder and their guests at over 1,200 airport lounges worldwide, all of which are part of the Dragonpass lounge program.

If you are used to sitting in the terminal waiting for your flight, you are absolutely missing out on all of the benefits that airport lounges can offer. Complimentary food, drink, WiFi, and a quieter place to relax all make for a much more enjoyable airport experience. The Frugal Flyer team always kicks off a trip with a visit to the airport lounge, and once you’ve visited one, you will wonder why you ever paid for food in the terminal prior.

Avis Preferred Plus Membership
Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite Business* cardholders will receive complimentary Preferred Plus membership in the Avis Preferred loyalty program.†

This benefit provides the cardholder with a 5% to 25% discount on rentals in Canada and the United States when booking through the Avis Preferred program, in addition to complimentary vehicle upgrades (whenever possible). If you have yet to focus on a rental car loyalty program for benefits when you are traveling, it’s worth considering Avis paired with the elevated status benefit from this card.
Insurance Coverage
The Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite Business* card offers a range of insurance coverage, mostly focused on travel-related insurance:
- Travel emergency medical insurance
- Trip cancellation and trip interruption
- Travel accident insurance
- Rental car collision loss and damage coverage
- Flight delay insurance
- Delayed and lost baggage insurance
- Hotel/motel burglary insurance
- Purchase security
- Extended warranty protection
Refer to the Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite Business* certificate of insurance for more details, including coverage and eligibility.
Redeeming Scene+™ Points
One of the biggest selling points of the Scene+™ program is that it is easy to redeem them for the maximum value possible.
Scene+™ points can be redeemed at a value of 100 points for every $1† towards travel, no matter whether you redeem them for flights, hotels, or other travel expenses like tickets to Tokyo Disneyland. You can then redeem points toward the cost using the Apply Points to Travel feature for up to 12 months from the date of the travel purchase.† Points can also be redeemed towards bookings made with Scene+ Travel powered by Expedia.

But it doesn’t stop there. If travel isn’t your thing, you can also redeem Scene+™ points for grocery purchases at participating retailers, movies at Cineplex, purchases at Home Hardware, dining at participating restaurants, gift cards, statement credit, and more (redemption values may vary – conditions apply).
Conclusion
The Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite Business* card is a great option for small business owners who want an easy-to-understand rewards system in Scene+™, while still receiving travel-related benefits that could benefit their business. Paired with a reasonable annual fee that is often waived as part of the welcome bonus, this card definitely offers value to the business owner who is looking to improve their existing credit card setup.
