The Best Loyalty Programs for All-Inclusive Resort Stays

best loyalty program for all inclusive resort stays featured image

Whether you are a miles and points aficionado or simply someone who wants to get away for a few days, a common sentiment is wanting to be somewhere warm, on a beach, with a drink in hand. There is a reason why many Canadians gravitate towards all-inclusive resorts, as it’s incredibly convenient and budget-friendly to pay one flat price and then not have to worry about any high costs while you are on your vacation.

While you can always pay cash, redeeming miles and points for all-inclusive resort stays is a unique angle that has grown in opportunities over the past few years, as brands realize the demand for these kinds of properties. And if you are interested in using your rewards for an all-inclusive resort booking, there are several hotel and bank loyalty programs that can make your next vacation a reality.

Let’s take a look at the best hotel and bank loyalty programs for booking your next all-inclusive resort stay.

Hotel Loyalty Programs for All-Inclusive Resort Stays

Marriott Bonvoy

All-Inclusive by Marriott Bonvoy is a category of hotels in their portfolio that encompasses 39 all-inclusive resorts worldwide, including in Antigua, Barbados, Brazil, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, and Mexico.

Hotel Brands include Autograph Collection, Elegant Hotels, Delta by Marriott, Westin, The Luxury Collection, Marriott Hotels, and W Hotels.

In recent years, we have seen Marriott’s all-inclusive portfolio continue to expand, but many of the properties are still located in the typical sun destinations. The plus side is that with the brands that are included, these properties have a significant redemption range when using Marriott Bonvoy points, making it easier for travelers to find the right hotel that fits their desires and redemption cost.

Marriott Bonvoy also offers the fifth night free when making a four-night redemption with points, so make sure you take advantage of that benefit.

If you want an insight into what you can expect when staying at one of these properties, check out Reed’s review of Almare, A Luxury Collection, Isla Mujeres. You can view a list of all currently available Marriott Bonvoy All-Inclusive properties here.

There are two Marriott Bonvoy cards in Canada that are both issued by American Express. Both cards offer an excellent welcome bonus, 15 elite night credits towards Marriott Bonvoy status, and an annual free night certificate worth 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy points. Either of these cards is worth adding to your wallet if you have an upcoming Marriott Bonvoy redemption in mind:

World of Hyatt

World of Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection includes over 100 all-inclusive resorts in destinations such as Mexico, Spain, the Dominican Republic, Aruba, Bulgaria, Colombia, Costa Rica, Curacao, Greece, Jamaica, Panama, Portugal, and St. Lucia.

Brands that are included in this collection are Impression by Secrets, Hyatt Ziva, Hyatt Zilara, Zoetry, Secrets, Breathless, Dreams, Hyatt Vivid, Alua, and Sunscape.

Redemption pricing is reasonable for many of these resorts, as you can expect to see prices anywhere from 15,000 to 45,000 World of Hyatt points per night. Note that Hyatt does not offer a fifth free night when booking on points, so you will need to ensure you have enough points for each night of your booking before redeeming.

You can view a list of all currently available World of Hyatt All-Inclusive properties here.

While the selection and quality of resorts make World of Hyatt a winner in the all-inclusive resort category, and potentially the best loyalty program in this list, the caveat is that World of Hyatt points can be very hard to earn. If you want to earn at scale, you’ll need to be eligible to get a US credit card, as World of Hyatt points can only be earned from Chase Bank credit products.

First up, Chase does issue several World of Hyatt co-branded cards that offer strong welcome bonuses plus additional Hyatt perks:

Another interesting angle is that you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to World of Hyatt, which oftentimes is your best value option. There are many credit cards that earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points, but you will need to hold either the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card, the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card, or the Chase Ink Business Preferred Card in order to make a transfer:

The good news is that if you hold one of the above eligible cards required to make a transfer, you can hold other Chase cards and transfer points from those products to World of Hyatt, provided you keep your eligible transfer card active.

Hilton Honors

The footprint of all-inclusive resorts is small within the Hilton Honors portfolio, with only 12 hotels worldwide located in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Curacao, Greece, and Turkey. Popular brands include the classic Hilton, Curio Collection, and DoubleTree.

While there aren’t many options when it comes to redeeming, rooms can be found at many of these properties starting at 70,000 Hilton Honors points, a completely reasonable rate. Don’t forget that you can get the fifth night free when making a four-night booking with Hilton Honors points, provided you have Hilton Honors Silver status. These properties may also be a good opportunity to redeem a Hilton Free Night Certificate, if you have any available.

If you are interested in learning more about these resorts, a few of the Frugal Flyer team members have stayed at the Hilton Tulum Riviera-Maya All-Inclusive Resort and said it was a great vacation. You can view a list of all currently available Hilton Honors All-Inclusive properties here.

Earning Hilton Honors points in Canada is difficult, as the only real method is to transfer Membership Rewards points to Hilton Honors points at a rate of 1:1. This is typically a poor use for Membership Rewards points compared to transferring them to frequent flyer programs, but there may be some value if you are close to having enough points for a redemption.

Depending on the resort redemption you are looking to make, and if Hilton Honors points are on sale, purchasing Hilton Honors points could make sense as well.

If you have access to US credit cards, there are four American Express Hilton Honors cards available with various welcome bonuses and benefits, including complimentary Hilton Honors status:

IHG One Rewards

IHG One Rewards doesn’t have that many all-inclusive resorts that they directly own, but they have partnered with Iberostar, which has many all-inclusive resorts, so the reach has increased to over 70 resorts via the Iberostar Waves, Iberostar Selection, and Joia by Iberostar Resorts brands.

Redemption pricing is heavily destination-dependent, but it’s pretty common to see rooms available for 50,000 IHG One Rewards points or more. You can view a list of all currently available IHG One Rewards All-Inclusive properties here.

IHG One Rewards points are also not the easiest to earn, with the most impactful avenue being any of the three IHG cards that are issued by Chase Bank in the United States:

Wyndham Rewards

Wyndham Resorts has over 60 all-inclusive hotels in its portfolio, with a wide range of locations including the Bahamas, Barbados, Curacao, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Panama, and Brazil. They also offer all-inclusive hotels in unique destinations such as Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and more.

Brands include Howard Johnson, Registry Collection, Dolce, LaQuinta, Wyndham Alltra, Trademark, Ramada, Wyndham Garden, Wyndham Grand, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.

All free night redemptions in the Wyndham Rewards loyalty program fall within the 7,500 to 30,000 Wyndham Rewards points range, so it’s not surprising that stays at many of these all-inclusive resorts cost upwards of 30,000 points per night. On the plus side, if you hold an eligible U.S.-issued Wyndham card, you will receive the fourth night free on an all points booking.

You can view a list of all currently available Wyndham Rewards All-Inclusive properties here.

Unfortunately, Wyndham Rewards points are not easily earned in Canada, so travelers who are interested in making a redemption in this program are best off if they look to the Wyndham cards issued in the United States by Barclays:

Bank Loyalty Programs for All-Inclusive Resort Stays

TD Rewards

TD Rewards points can be redeemed towards an all-inclusive resort stay via two redemption methods.

The first option is booking via Expedia for TD, which is essentially a TD-branded Expedia platform. When redeeming TD Rewards points via this method, you can expect to receive 0.5 cents per point, or $5 in value per 1,000 TD Rewards points redeemed.

expedia for td complete guide featured image

The other option is ‘Book Any Way Travel’, which means that you book the stay via a platform or provider of your choice, and then charge it to your eligible TD credit card. You can then submit a redemption against the travel charge. When redeeming TD Rewards points via this method, you can expect to receive 0.44 cents per point, or $4.40 in value per 1,000 TD Rewards points redeemed.

Whether you redeem TD Rewards points via Expedia for TD or via Book Any Way Travel, the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card is flat-out the best way to earn a large amount of TD Rewards points in short order. This card has a welcome bonus of up to 165,000 TD Rewards points, which can take a significant amount of cost away from your next all-inclusive booking.

Scene+

Scene+

Scene+ points are one of the best bank loyalty program currencies when it comes to redeeming towards any travel purchases, and coincidentally, Scene+ points can also be redeemed towards an all-inclusive resort stay via two methods.

Points can be redeemed for an all-inclusive resort stay via the Scene+ Expedia Travel Portal or via ‘Book Any Way Travel’. It doesn’t matter which redemption method you use, as you will receive a value of 1 cent per point for both, which means $1 of value per 100 Scene+ points.

Our pick for the best Scotiabank credit card that earns Scene+ points is the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card, as it has an outsized earning rate on groceries, dining, and entertainment purchases.

So, Which Is The Best Loyalty Program for All-Inclusive Resort Stays?

I think all of the loyalty programs in this list serve a purpose, and if you are collecting points in any of them, you can definitely look to redeem them for an all-inclusive resort vacation. However, there are two programs that stand head-and-shoulders above the rest.

When it comes to hotel loyalty programs, World of Hyatt is the best choice for all-inclusive resort bookings. While the points can be more difficult to earn, the fact that they still have an award chart for redeeming points for free nights goes a long way, as this means that you can stay at some truly luxurious all-inclusive resorts that are much more reasonably priced than other programs.

On the flip side, when it comes to bank loyalty programs, I think the Scene+ program is worth paying the most attention to for booking all-inclusive resorts. It is pretty easy to earn points in this program thanks to the high credit card welcome bonuses and spend multipliers on many of their cards. I also love the fact that they make it easy to get the maximum cent per point value, simply because you can book the stay on your own and charge it to your Scotiabank card before redeeming Scene+ points. Maximum value plus simplicity is hard to beat.

Conclusion

It’s been interesting to see major hotel brands opening more all-inclusive properties in recent years, and the opportunities for redemption only continue to increase for miles and points enthusiasts. Whether you plan to use hotel loyalty program points or bank loyalty program points for your next all-inclusive hotel stay, I hope you are able to save money while you relax and enjoy a drink on the beach!
